Seasonal Schools

The members of the consortium of the national Ph.D. in Cybersecurity (Ph.D.-CySec) are also involved in the organization of Seasonal Schools focused on Cybersecurity and related topics. Students attending the national Ph.D. are encouraged to consider attending these schools.

NECS, European Network for Cyber Security (Trento)

The European Network for Cybersecurity (NeCS) PhD School was launched six years ago, in response to the increase need of highly qualified experts in cyber-security. The School addresses the issues of training and development of talented junior researchers as indicated in the European Cybersecurity strategy and highlighted in the EC's Digital Agenda.

The School is supported by the EU Cybersecurity  Competence Networks. They have been launched in 2019, within the H2020 framework, and include CONCORDIA, CyberSec4Europe, ECHO, and SPARTA. This year, the School will include also the presence of other new EU projects such as CROSSCON, CERTIFY, MEDINA and ENCRYPT to make the school also a dissemination opportunity for Horizon Europe. All of them, put emphasis on the crucial role of education for cybersecurity, proposing new educational and training programmes and new methods of teaching.

The NeCS PhD School is an opportunity to present to young researchers selected innovations and results. The scope of the  School is to present advances on both attacks and defenses in the realm of cybersecurity. In this year's programme, compared to previous editions, a good part of the lectures is dedicated to hands-on experiences and exercises, such that students can put into practice the theoretical principles and lessons learned during the more classical lectures.

Enabling Technologies for Industrial Internet of Things (Pisa)

The summer school provides theoretical and practical lessons about recent advances in enabling technologies for electronics, electromagnetics, future wireless transceivers and wireless sensor networks, systems, edge and cloud computing, networks in scenarios such as IoT, Industry 4.0, Cyber-PhysicalSystems (CPS), autonomous vehicles, robots.

Wireless circuits and systems and internet technology are becoming pervasive in many applications fields such as Industry4.0 (e.g. RFID, additive manufacturing, smart manufacturing), vehicle industry (e.g. connected cars, advanced driver assistance systems, V2V and V2I wireless communications, radar, lidar), automation in industrial or domotic scenarios (e.g. wireless sensor and actuator networks), health&wellness (e.g. wireless wearable sensing and biomedical circuits), robots.

International School on Foundations of Security Analysis and Design (Bertinoro)

Security in computer systems and networks emerged as one of the most challenging research areas. The International School on Foundations of Security Analysis and Design (FOSAD) has been one of the foremost events established with the goal of disseminating knowledge in this critical area. The main aim of the FOSAD school is to offer a good spectrum of current research in foundations of security - ranging from programming languages to analysis of protocols, from cryptographic algorithms to access control policies and trust management - that can be of help for graduate students and young researchers from academia or industry who intend to approach the field.

Since the first event in 2000 and until its 21st edition in 2022, FOSAD attracted about 990 participants and 170 lecturers from all over the world. The school programme alternates monographic courses given by well-known experts in the security community. Moreover, FOSAD encourages presentations given by those participants who intend to take advantage of the audience for discussing their current research in the area. Many of the young speakers of the FOSAD open session are now appreciated researchers and professors.

International Forensics Summer School (Sampieri)

The school will be held at Sampieri, Sicily (School location: https://www.hotelbaiasamuele.it/en/ ) from July 16th to 22th 2023. The second edition of IFOSS aimed to provide both an objective and clear overview and an in-depth analysis of the state-of-the-art research as well as the professional best practices in Forensics and related fields. The courses will be delivered by world renowned experts, from either academia, law enforces and industry covering both theoretical and practical aspects of real Forensics problems. The school aimed to provide a stimulating opportunity for professionals and young researchers, as well as Ph.D. students. The participants benefitted from direct interaction and discussions with world leaders in their specific fields.

After the big success of the first edition with about 50 attendees from all over the world, also this year we will focus on Digital Forensics, Law with specific emphasis on Artificial Intelligence revolution.
